EP REVIEW: Abduction – Moksha

Abduction has definitely made its name recognised in the Black Metal underground with three killer full lengths. Now I have received a new EP that only exists on tape sent to 20 individuals A|V deemed worthy. Below are my thoughts on this mysterious release.

Drawing in on scathingly cold atmospheric riffs, blasting drums and howled vocals, there is a raw production that is mighty and piercing, driving the blistering inferno of destructive music right into the heart like a stake. Those familiar with Abduction will probably understand my admiration to A|V ‘s ability in creating a claustrophobically caustic assault on the senses and that rings true to this latest offering but in an entirely new fashion. For instance the analogue recording method and slightly more melancholy undertones, nuanced within a bombastic onslaught of ambient prowess and musical brilliance. The primal savagery of the project is swathed in a charming experimental cloak which truly is magnificent and unique. While the murky music is certainly an acquired taste, rawness is something I am more than comfortable with and this bleaker offering certainly conjures up a really different feeling for Abduction while definitely keeping the signature sound of the project at the core of the sound. Utterly disturbing and brilliantly evil, this occult tape will irk you to your core in a manner most astounding, or at least it would if you could hear it. There is a gorgeous transcendence between the songs which allows you to be hypnotised throughout and never feel jarred other than by the uncomfortable vibes of the music, which I am quite certain is the intent. Glistening destruction from beyond the realms of mankind, this was more than a new EP/demo, this was sheerly marvellous for a plethora of reasons from the consistently evil production, fantastic songwriting and also the emboldened spirit of malevolence that could be felt throughout the tapes running time. A true harmony of instrumental destruction with a clearly spiritually driven approach that concocts only horrifically nightmarish sounds with catharsis clearly at the centre of it all. What lies ahead for Abduction? I could not tell you, but if this is any indication then I certainly await with high expectations. -?/10
