Norwegian Death Metal groovers FILTHDIGGER are back with a new EP of crusty delights. Out now via Cavernous Records.
Starting out with doomy instrumentals and eerie vocal howling, the discordant uncertain feeling of the record immediately grips me and fills me with a sense of foreboding. The tension and atmosphere of this album is impeccable from the off. Gruellingly dark guitar riffs and primal drum patterns kick your teeth in and back up the harsh vocals with an almighty and pungent punch. Soaring lead guitars add melody and more ambience to the sound without straying from the meaty rhythmic groove in any way. The insatiable anguish of the EP builds up really nicely introducing tight drum work and tremolo picked riffing that is equally as tense as the doomy beginnings and progress with a natural transcendence that is never jarring or overcomplicated. Overall this is a crushing and captivating slab of classic Death Metal that hits hard, never diverting from its sharp spearhead of devastation and keeps things to the point throughout, just how it should be. There is plenty of variety and killer doomy sections among a blistering inferno of extremity that keeps you hooked from start to end. A killer little release that offers around half an hour of killer material, excellent work. -8.5/10
