ALBUM REVIEW: Diabolic Night – Beyond The Realm

German Blackened Speed Metal mob Diabolic Night are here with their debut full length album, following the popularity of their demo and EP. Set for release via High Roller Records on November 15th, this should be a ripper.

Thunder and melodic guitars bring in the spirit of battle gorgeously, truly capturing that classic Heavy Metal feeling that we all know and love with some chants to accentuate the atmospheric prowess of the opening. Ferocious riffs, thundering bass and pounding drums hit hard with a blistering solo, preparing us for the thrashing cascade of instrumental extremity and snarling vocals that lies ahead. I wasn’t expecting the vocals to be reverb-drenched but damn does it sound killer over the ripping guitars and drums to add only more violence to the frenzied assault of pure Metal majesty. The pure maniacal approach to the songwriting is balanced with beautifully melodic touches and has attitude to spare, offering something more than the average Blackened Speed Metal release, more in the vein of Witching Hour with the sheer capability and brilliance of the musicians behind it. A killer display of everything I personally want from a record like this from the punky hooks, savage riffing, upbeat drums (completed by bombastic fills), grooving bass and howling vocals, there is nothing on this album that lacks passion or feels unnecessary, delivering pure chaotic might with a stoic and bold approach that should capture every headbangers attention. Meaty, cutting and unrelentingly catchy with plentiful bite and just marvellous songwriting from start to end with unique intervals and regular soaring lead guitar breaks amidst the onslaught of massive speeding anthems. This is an album that will have fans of Black Metal, Speed Metal, Thrash Metal and of course just pure Heavy Metal unanimously gripped and ensnared by its butchering charm. A must listen. -9/10
