ALBUM REVIEW: Flukt – Darkness Devour

Norwegian underground Black Metallers FLUKT are here with their new album of punishing old school material. Out now via Dusktone.

Kicking off with blastbeats and driven guitars, snarled vocals quickly ensue and the chaotic blend of classic Black Metal hits hard. With doomy tension and plentiful grooves, Flukt deliver all the best things about Norwegian Black Metal with a gloriously energetic display of killer musicianship and aggression. Utilising some wicked drum fills, the band transition between icy tremolo riffs and dense atmospherics flawlessly, which coupled with the unrelenting vocals that rip majestic chaos through the mix, this is definitely some tight material. Of course with this kind of band, there is not exactly anything we have never heard before but with a sound so loveable as classic Black Metal, I can hardly complain about this, as long as it is done well, like in this case. Fantastically menacing and with plenty of character and flare, Flukt deliver savage soundscapes so naturally and with a monolithically abrasive approach that is truly captivating from start to end. This is cold, dark and perfectly reminiscent of all the bands we know and love from the 90s, true nostalgic brilliance with plenty of bite and melody to keep things interesting. It is definitely worth checking out this ravaging blizzard of extremity if you like Black Metal in the classic style! Fantastic. -7.5/10
