ALBUM REVIEW: Profanatica – Rotting Incarnation Of God

PROFANATICA are back with a new full length album of unholy Black Metal rites, set for release on October 11th via Season Of Mist.

Strange synths and gruesome riffs start us off, building a filthy tension before hammering drums and total chaos drives out impenetrable soundscapes of devastating Black-Death Metal monstrosities. The classic Profanatica vocals soon join the raw rasping instrumentals to deliver a claustrophobic, caustic assault on the senses with an onslaught of primitive riffs and intense drum fills. It is abundantly clear that Profanatica are sticking to their previous formula, never compromising or changing and for that I am grateful, I mean why fix what isn’t broken? Throughout this record we are given a hellishly extreme display of the filthiest incarnation Black Metal has seen, or War Metal as some may call it. A relentless barrage of blasting drums, snarling vocals and macabre guitar riffs endlessly cascade in a raw, old school and totally demonic manner that offers no respite, melody or anything of the sort, just pure unaltered destruction for the truest and most extreme fans of the genre. While not always fast, there are some doomy sections, this album never becomes any less intense when dialling back the speed, if anything the tension builds to an uncomfortable level that has you in sweats before the unholy obliteration of you ears continues. Primitively energetic, there is a simplicity that has much charm in the most revolting fashion, as has always been the case with these guys. Torturing and unsettling, the new Profanatica record absolutely slays, keeping in check with their stream of excellency at delivering the most brilliantly diabolical Black Metal warfare. From start to end, this is an action-packed journey of terror and the occult in a riveting package that grips you with a claw of instrumental savagery and tormenting vocals. Another magnificent release from a consistently amazing band. -8.5/10
