ALBUM REVIEW: Exhumed – Horror

Death Metal legends Exhumed are back with a new full length album, out now via Relapse Records.

The album drives right into blasting drums, tremolo riffs and maniacal vocals, with no lead up, just full octane Death Metal complete with blistering lead guitars. Each of the songs are incredibly short featuring very little build up which for me is the main thing holding this album back from pretty early on, with a lot of the songs containing wicked ideas but delivered in a way that feels more like a preview. However aside from this minor time critique, the savagery of the new Exhumed material is certainly meeting their standard with a decimating, thrashing display of brutality touched with Grindcore that has an insatiable lust for violence. The putrid display of skilful musicianship is insane with unwavering talent and precision delivering slicing Death Metal grotesqueries flawlessly, which is nothing new for Exhumed. If you can get past the short songs and lack of atmosphere, then there is plenty to love about this blundering piece of extremity, that for me was nowhere near as good as its predecessor “Death Revenge” nor the bands earlier material such as “Gore Metal” however it’s still a pretty sold release and certainly is stupefyingly intense. While this isn’t one of my favourite recent Death Metal albums, I still certainly enjoyed listening to it and I cannot deny the awesome skills of the band, but I guess this just felt rushed to me and a tad pointless in parts. -6/10
