GIG REVIEW: Tomb Mold @ Nambucca (13th September 2019)

When 3 of the finest Death Metal acts play an exclusive show together, it is a must to attend, this is definitely the case with Tomb Mold, Ritual Necromancy and Of Feather And Bone which is completed by UK Death Metal newcomers Slimelord, whose demo I recently reviewed. I think little preface is needed for these bands.

Slimelord open the night with no faltering, spacious and estranged Death Metal delights that glide through pinch harmonic driven grotesqueries and blastbeats with the stench of guttural vocals beautifully. A short but blinding setlist of pure old school Death Metal just the way it should be to open a night like this. Following their promising demo, these guys are set to do some awesome things in the future.

Of Feather And Bone take to the stage next with a more d-beat onslaught filled with grooving hooks and pummelling fills that permeate the air and really bring the energy for the night up a notch, driving out a meaty performance of barbaric and catchy Death Metal that is as fun to watch as it is captivatingly brutal, their set seemed to fly past with an astonishingly crushing blend of classic Death Metal and more modern hardcore hooks to get everyone pumped up.

Penultimate and well-respected Ritual Necromancy bring a darker vibe to the night with their cavernously doomy and eerie take on Death Metal that is far more spectral than anything else with some filthily laid down vocals and pummelling instrumentals that pound out a ferociously inhuman soundscape that really had the audience entranced from start to end. The atmospherics of this show transported the listeners to another realm with a mind-blowing performance that everyone walked away from incredibly satisfied. Marvellously done.

Finally Tomb Mold bring their vicious Death Metal cacophony to the stage with a huge uproar of fondness from the crowd, driving right into all of their most memorable and exciting tracks. The cosmic death-rays summoned by their savage take on extremity was hypnotising to watch and crushing sonically with so much driven and skilful musicianship that shows why these guys are at the top of their game. The blissfully morbid instrumentals hit with utmost force and clearly everyone in the room was ready to receive this monstrous performance. It is fabulous to see such a phenomenal band back up the excellence of their records with a stellar live performance. An obliterating end to the evening.
