Here I review the second full length album of Raw Swedish Black-Death Metal brutes MYLINGAR, out now via Amor Fati Productions and 20 Buck Spin.
The album wastes no time grinding into ferocious and maddening riffs with offset blastbeats to create an unnervingly dense, blundering roar of total butchery before the maniacal vocals soar over the dissonant instrumental radiance. The atmosphere dissipates into discordance and more laid back yet equally unsettling chords before the flaming inferno of aggression comes back, this is a pattern that reoccurs throughout to give a false sense of security before bombarding us with an onslaught of utter vitriol. Magnificently depraved are the sounds conjured by MYLINGAR that offer nothing easy to relax to with a spitefully convulsive groove ever-present. Astonishingly disturbing is the only fitting way to describe that record which is abundantly clear from very early on. Fiercely disruptive emotionally, the sonic blows of this music are disconcerting at the best of times and will leave even the more seasoned Extreme Metal fans such as myself feeling slightly overwhelmed. Feeding into a cascade of severely meat riffs, the music only gets darker with a swirling abyss of guitars, drums and vocals that will make you grimace in ecstatic delight and primal fear, this indulges in true negativity and for that I thank MYLINGAR because they take Blackened Death Metal into a new and fearsome territory. Only the unholiest of bands can make such naturally devastating sounds which occur seamlessly and transcend gorgeously between phenomenally crafted musicianship and interstellar sadism, this is true morbid excellency with a brilliantly distinguished and disgusting production that fits this music like a glove to push you into a void of despair. It seems that the cavernous swell of dystopian instrumentals and unhallowed inhuman vocals never ends, dragging you further into some type of Black Metal portal that is punishingly ambient in the most terrifying manner, every single song offers a fresh set of repugnant horrors to face and the band do it in an excitingly vicious manner that keeps you on your toes while entwined with the atmospheric prowess of the record. There is plenty of musical diversity while keeping in line with the vomited radiation that seems to be spewed so naturally from their sound. Overall I think everyone with a taste for being put out of their comfort zone will delve into this to be met with something far more demonic than they had expected, this is absolutely riveting and a must listen not only for the astoundingly gorgeous songwriting but to see if you have what it takes to stick through such a fabulously evil soundscape of spectral disdain. Clearly one of the most twisted albums of 2019 by a long shot, jump into the abyssal void. -9/10
