Here I review the debut demo from Rothadás, promising to be some slimy and fetid Death Metal, set for release via Me Saco Un Ojo Records during early September.
Opening with melodically soaring guitars, there is a sense of dread that is unmistakable as cymbal chimes ring out chillingly. A charge of spewed vocals and Death-Doom riffs lurk forth with a stampeding heaviness, utterly rancid with putrid swelling guitars and cavernous drum hits backing up the butchering vocal snarls. Suddenly we are thrown into an onslaught of blasting upbeat drums and tremolo riffing psychosis that hits with ridiculous force among the melodic Bolt Thrower style melodics and churning doominess. Rothadás do an excellent job of making their brand of reeking Death Metal ichor surprisingly haunting among such primal assaults, blending Finnish style slimy atmospherics with American monolithic stomps and sprinkled with spectral Doom influences, certainly a unique and interesting listen. While absolutely vile with their menacing take on the mentioned variety of Death Metal, the clarity of their sound is so hauntingly clear and precise with a marvellous production style for the music. Every bar that is spewed from the band has a dense foreboding vibe to it that is utterly crushing, especially when coupled with the devastating array of tempos and high-octane riffing. If Sentenced, Krypts, Hooded Menace and Bolt Thrower had some kind of mutant offspring, this would be the result. The monstrous chugging riffs of the second track hit with a bludgeoning force much like the first that immediately gets you into the swing of things with its lurching hideous grooves and monolithic atmospherics. Following the first track, this certainly stays consistent with a cacophony of gorgeously dismal soundscapes and gnarly grooves that are as hauntingly beautiful as they are disgustingly brutal. From glowing spectral dissonance to muddy stomps, this two track demo is one phenomenal and will certainly require repeated listens to truly admire all of its nuanced qualities and charms. The complex diversity in tempos and ideas are transcendent in their flow which is astonishingly smooth for the sheer amount of variety packed into two tracks which is not only admirable but just wonderful to behold. Volatile, vicious and vitriolic, another fantastic release from Me Saco Un Ojo who clearly bring some of the most unique Death Metal gems to the foreground. -8.5/10
