ALBUM REVIEW: Deiquisitor – Towards Our Impending Doom

Here I review the brand new album from Danish sewer-dwelling Death Metal mob DEIQUISITOR! Out now via Night Shroud Records and Extremely Rotten Productions. Following their blinding set playing with fellow Danes UNDERGANG and UK heavyweights CRYPTWORM last night in London, I still have some of these tracks ringing loud in my ears, so what better time to review the record?

The album sinks right in to warm grooving instrumental work with no introduction needed before a barrage of blasting drums played with an almost inhuman precision back up walls of off-kilter savage riffs alongside a maniacal vocal performance. The mix is tight with that signature murky sewer sound but concise enough to let the bellowing reek of Death Metal do its punishing job with clarity. DEIQUISITOR have a very unique sound, akin to their rupturing Danish counterparts but with a really grim thrashy and dissonant flare to it, something I cannot get enough of. The sheer ferocity and mind-numbing blows of instrumental torment are invigorating with a putrid aggression that feels like something new, groundbreaking and exciting. With an unrelentingly devastating set of drum fills, the thunderous roar of bass cuts through really gorgeously along with the convulsive meandering of psychotic guitar fury and butchering vocals. It is very apparent that the band put in tons of energy and skill to the release to unleash a formidable beast in the modern Death Metal world while holding the classic old school spirit very close to heart. Surging, oozing musicianship is consistent across the album with its pounding barrage of fury, a pure onslaught of some of the most intensely brilliant Death Metal 2019 will offer. Another important thing about the music aside from its obliterating brutality is the atmospheric nuance the band make sure to include to really tie your interest in the battering album and give something more than just high quality music that makes it more of an experience to devote your attention to. Among the storming impenetrable death-march, there is also some melodic subtlety that really shines through, giving it a gloriously epic feel while still sounding like something that crawled from the deepest dungeon of horrors. While there have been many excellent releases so far this year, I think it is of utmost importance that these Danish titans are not overlooked as this is absolutely marvellous. A stunningly hideous blend of modern decimation and old school odious gruesomeness. -9/10
