DEMO REVIEW: Prosanctus Inferi – Pulpit Sycophants

Here I review the new demo from PROSANCTUS INFERI from the United States, playing an evil blend of Black and Death Metal that will decimate all of your senses. Out today via Nuclear War Now Productions.

  1. Pulpit Sycophants emanates raw and crushing Death Metal riffs with pounding drums from the onset which is met with an eerie shriek from the vocalist. Soon enough storming Black Metal assaults are conjured up and hastily thrown forth with a barbaric and primal aggression that certainly packs a punch with its lo-fi production value and evil riffing. A monstrously evil and tormenting opening track with plenty of glorious grooves fuelled by something from the bowels of hell. Brilliant.
  2. Bellicose Spiritual Violence follows on with pummelling drums and an onslaught of meaty guitar work that matches the hard-hitting punch of the opener. A sparse pace and crawling slab of ominous Blackened Death Metal ensues with a brilliance that truly invokes the underground flame. While there may not be a ton of originality, there is a consistently tight, monolithic momentum of truly abyss-summoning musical prowess that utilising primal aggression beautifully. The doomy sections add a nicely unique texture and variation to the assaults. Excellent.
  3. Blood Synod falls in with monstrously fast drum work and grinding guitar riffs. Fuelled by some hellish apparition, the band create a disturbingly intense blitzkrieg  of truly astonishing proportions. The consistency and energy of the drums is rivalled only by the chainsaw guitar attack and vocal-chord shredding snarls that altogether fused with some lo-fi mixing work makes for a Neanderthal like bludgeoning primality. A malignant track that demands respect with its thrashing frenzies and brutish chugs. Glorious.
  4. Geist Enthralled is the final cut in this four-track demo of decimation. Coming in with impeccable drum attacks and piercing guitar riffs, the intimidating morbidity of the fourth track is certainly akin to the others. Blistering instrumentals and darkness enshrouded vocals make for one final slice of hellishly delightful and sadistic Blackened Death Metal that certainly delivers its final blow with all the might of the previous tracks. A gnarly closing piece that does not bow down but rather gives one final middle finger to the world. Fantastic.

A truly intimidating demo packed with grooves and raw barrages that blast you with immense walls of riffs, drum assaults and hellish vocals. Primitive, unhinging and totally barbaric, this savage demo is certainly a valuable addition to the War Metal catalogue that Nuclear War Now Productions uphold with such consistency. -7.5/10
