DEMO REVIEW: Rotted – Dying To Rot

Following the recent success of their first album, ROTTED have decided to unleash a new demo of totally filthy and abrasive Death Metal via Maggot Stomp Records, out on June 14th. Time to get putrified.

  1. Wounds opens with eerie samples, gruesomely bringing in the horrific sounds of rot with torturous screams and squelches. Barbaric guitars roar in like thunder with so much grisly bass accompanying them. Backed up by forceful drum pounding, the low tuned churning riffs backline the vomited vocals the deeply snarl forth, the whole band emanating with a totally hideous groove. The savagery and unpleasantly crushing deadweight of the band is totally impressive and gnarly, setting the demo off beautifully. Excellent.
  2. Liquified continues the doomy growling pace with low-tempo meaty riffs, crashing cymbals and mortuary awakening grunts. The bellowing odious sound of the band takes a sudden development into faster paced hooks with an unrivalled aggression and totally malicious, exquisitely upheaving and brain-moulding attack. The static bass and drum solo breaks up the hardcore sway of the riffs gorgeously before firing us back into more lurking demonic snarls. Another utterly ferocious slab of Death Metal delicacy. Brilliant.
  3. Dying To Rot drags us back into the sewer with more cavernous concoctions of totally stupefying extremity. Grooving guitar convulsions and pummelling drum attacks utilised in a primitive fashion truly gives a dungeon-dwelling soundscape of rotting visions, corpses littering the audacious sounds. While some of what I said may seem nonsensical, that is because the crushing weight of these primal blows is probably detracting from my thinking capacity. My point is that this swaying track of monstrously heavy Death Metal will chew you up and regurgitate the remaining guts and offal. Wonderful.
  4. Visions Of Decay is the final cut in this meaty quadrilogy. Opening with more putrefying instrumental work that blasts out a final blend of blast beats and guitars that rip you to shreds, the tearing vocal assaults soon finalising the bombastic barrage of malice. A vitriolic slamming finale that is filled with the consistent aggression and raw pummels of guitars grinding out low-tuned savage riffs, blasting drum assaults and some of the filthiest vocals you will hear. Ending with the same level of energy we have been given throughout and closing the demo in style. Magnificent.

If you like filthy, and I mean filthy Death Metal then you go to Maggot Stomp Records. This demo delivers the same vein of ugliness and rotting barbarity that we have seen with bands like Encoffinized, Gutless and Malignant on the same label. -9/10
