Here I review the long-awaited second album from Blackened Thrash Metal maniacs EVIL ANGEL! Set for release on May 31st via Hells Headbangers!
- Necro Black Mass fires right in with thrashing guitars, raw grunts and blasting drums that pelt out full-speed Blackened Thrash Metal chaos. With high octane instrumentals hammering away at your skull while the vocals penetrate the seething darkness of the morbid concoction, the old school vibes of the music are immediately clear and here to stay. Raw, aggression, maniacal and punky with plenty of ripping extremity fuelled violence and blistering shreds, the band know how to set the bar for the record. Excellent.
- Christ Decays storms back in with upbeat drumming and ferocious riffs, backing up the monstrous vocals to create a powerhouse of purely filthy and odiously repugnant Extreme Metal, filled with disdain and pure frenzied drive. The track has a nice built up effect that allows the monolithic energy and fierce musicianship to grow into something obscurely evil. Total headbang and anarchy fuelling madness from the bowels of hell. Brilliant.
- UGH! fiercely drives in with a grunt and, pounding drums and whiplash riffs that drive you head first through walls of noisy yet precise chaotic depths from the bands most vitriolic ideas. There is an unrelenting force ever-present that just never seems to tire of playing totally barbaric music with everything they have. A primitive and catchy piece of grooving savagery that demands respect. Great work.
- Nuclear Hammer falls right into place with more pummelling instrumental warfare that does not allow the weaker minded to enjoy the malignant and menacing assaults of total fury. Howling among the whirlwind of ear-shredding instrumentals, the vocalist furthers that brutal assaults of the band to create a full-package experience of total hate. Upbeat in rhythm, the song has a really fun feel to it that just makes you want to go crazy, as this type of Heavy Metal should. Wonderful.
- Legions Of Armageddon draws in with slower riffs before grind out out more tormenting, primal grooves from the instruments. A torturously brutal affair that shows how no amount of Extreme Metal can prepare you for some releases that just hammer out bestial noise with no respite for the weak. The rhythms of the track and demonic vocals demand total destruction with their ferocious, blasting aggression. Doomy sections fill out the track, building the Satanic atmospherics nicely while keeping the hideous momentum of the piece. Fantastic.
- Sacrificial Slaughter barrages you with more morbid blastbeats, threatening guitar riffs and sadistic snarling, taking the mentally disturbing soundscapes of the band even further into overdrive, this song is another from which you will not recover if you do not already adore the most blackened and hysterically unholy musical arts, which thankfully I do, allowing full appreciation for this hailstorm of inferno-summoning Black-Thrash attack. There is also some slightly more melodic lead guitar work which added a touch of soul to the barbarity. Damn good stuff.
- Bestial Necromancer slams into chugging riffs and harsh drum beats, pulsating out totally intimidating war-marches from hell, conjuring dark visions with their storming Black Metal assaults. The mosh pit fuelling cascade of speed ridden instrumental infernos should certainly satisfy the cravings of classic Black/Thrash/Speed Metal who need the truest and most extreme music they can find. Some of the slower crawls really added a special kind of evil to the sound with their doomy textures. Another fabulously executed track.
- Crawling From The Grave opens with eerie charms, militant drums and massive walls of doomy guitars (featuring some epic pick slides) that tied together by some grisly snarls, makes for an atmospheric and darkness conjuring soundscape which nicely builds into intricate thrashing grooves. Using a slightly less barbaric but equally savage approach, the band make some enticing hooks that should excite even seasoned fans, taking some new sounds in their stride through hell. This song was totally killer and packed with some amazing riff crafting.
- Ritual Sacrifice brings in the end for this decimating assault of Extreme Metal barbarity. Starting off in totally frenzied chaos with whirling guitar tremolo picking, skull-cracking snare blasts and gruesome snarls, taking time for a thrashy bridge into blistering warfare. This song is nicely balanced with some epic hooks, glorious grooves and killer levels of energy that feels truly insane and of a band inspired by real evil. A fantastic last slice of totally barbarous and awesome Extreme Metal mysticism from below.
With plenty of totally maniacal vocal warfare, instrumental savagery and a raw, old school style sound throughout. This blistering slice of white-hot extremity will certainly satisfy the maniacs among you who want truly extreme Heavy Metal that sounds hellishly demonic. -8/10
