DEMO REVIEW: Torso – Demonic Vomiting

Here I review the debut demo tape from TORSO, old school Death Metal featuring a member of legendary Grindcore band Torsofuck. Set for release on March 10th via Me Saco Un Ojo Records.

1. Demonic Vomiting sets in with feedback that drops us into doomy, raw and cavernous riffing. The slow cymbal crashes and lead guitars add frenzy to the demonic growl of the rhythm and bass before we are greeted by the horrific snarls of the vocalist. Chugging out macabre and malignant riffs and impacting drum beats with a lo-fi attack that is as unrelenting and it is brutally crushing. This opening track features a dungeon-dwelling, eerie and totally ferocious sense of hatred that crawls through layers of slimy grooving Death Metal that is incredibly fierce. A perfect musical soundtrack for a chaotic pit or just total anarchy. Excellent!
2. Rotting In Chunks follows up with more grisly, pounding assaults. Blasting drums, crusty guitars and rupturing vocals create a tight, punchy wall of noise warfare that is invasive and repugnant in the best possible manner. More chugging leads to an obliterating and devastation fuelling death march. The production is fitting to the music with both being hideously gnarly. Razor sharp bass tones and equally cutting, buzz-saw guitars over a hammering drum performance is the ideal backup to the grotesque vocal barrages that are well spaced and totally impactful. The lead work is minimalist but really adds some flourish to the music all the same. Another brilliant track.
3. Ejaculate Inside The Carcass finishes this trio of decimation. Pulsating out more convulsive grooving instrumentals with spewing vocals, this brutish and malignant music hurls itself at you with tormenting and demonic barrages. The screams and d-beat riffing is catchy, with impactful grooves and hooks that rip you apart as the band just chugs along with a morbidity to be rivalled with. This final track offers the same type of thing as the other two, total ferocity and brutality. A fitting end to this compact but hard-hitting demo tape of some of the filthiest, ugliest and most epic Death Metal you will hear this year. Totally glorious, absolutely hideous and in a word, marvellous.

A short but hideously heavy demo and an excellent beginning for the band. If you like your Death Metal to be encrusted with filth and the old school forceful approach with blistering instrumentals and odious growls, this is for you! -9/10
