ALBUM REVIEW: Milopkl – Panspermatic Eradication

Here I have my first review of the year! Starting as I mean to continue with some extremity, this time in the form of Milopkl from Japan with their new full length.

1. Scorching Southern Sand opens with some ambience that soon turns to punky thrashing extremity. The harsh tones and grisly atmosphere of the music is suitably frantic and in your face with a gruesome feel to it that is just killer. The primitive approach to the songwriting works well with the chaotic assault from the whole band. The lead work is a nice touch to things and match the howled vocals nicely. The whole band are bellowing out violence with pure hatred beautifully. A strong opening track.
2. Winds Blow follows suit with speedy cascading riffs, blast beats and more gut wrenching attack from the band that just hammers out more full throttle anarchy across the board. The music is raw and really harsh which is something I really enjoy and think completes the package for this type of band. The guitar solo was melodic and well balanced without being too distracting from the intense drums and rhythm sections. Another excellent song!
3. Burning grinds into more War Metal territory with slamming riffs, furious drums and ferocious vocals to join them. The frantic attack of the band is filled with a completely honest feel to things that makes the assaults even more intense and hideously heavy. The track is actually pretty catchy, yet dissonant. All things considered and another great addition to the album.
4. Go To Hell blasts out noise from the start is set to be another solid track, with everything flowing smoothly together whilst completely decimating the listener, perfect. The more melancholic and atmospheric touches to this piece are actually pretty stunning while the punky elements make sure it still kicks your teeth in. The lyrics are well written and genuinely fun to listen to working excellently with the song. Wonderfully done!
5. Fatal Hatred jumps right back in with more torturously fast paced riffs, built in drums and a killer marching storm from the full band the drops total chaos on us ferociously. This song has tons of bite and a hideously harsh and intense feel to it that just thrashes out Extreme Metal mayhem without anything being held back. I really enjoyed the short but blistering guitar solo that broke things up nicely without losing any momentum. This is some incredibly violent music that demands respect, for that, kudos.
6. Panspermatic Eradication is once more, completely unrelenting and tireless. The piece launches us into hellish overdrive once again with a some grinding riffs that may be simple but are also incredibly effective. The ridiculously fast drums and screamed vocals just pound out pure maniacal aggression with every passing second. Another absolutely killer piece of music!
7. Dark Obstacle is by far the longest song at almost 12 minutes, which for this type of music is something incredibly unique, now to see what is in store for us. The song jumps right into total battery, grinding out more maniacal music. I expected the song to start off slower but I guess the band win there, being totally unpredictable with their structure. The track is a long one, which includes all the elements we have had up into now that are all killer but this time we are just given the longest barrage of Extreme Metal fury of the album. There are plenty of solos to break up the gnarly assaults which are nicely varied and diverse for this style especially. I really enjoyed the doomy sections of the piece that reminded me a lot of Goatlord, which is certainly not a complaint, they added a real depth to the music and some wonderful variety too. While I do not think the track needed to be quite as long as it was, it is really killer and still incredibly enjoyable.
8. Kill Yourself closes this album with a far shorter track. Opting to attack us with one last bout of thrashing guitar, blast beats and hilarious lyrics that are hatefully yelled at us, after the grandiose epic of the last song I think this was a brilliant and comedic way to put an excellent finish on this fantastic album. Great work guys!

This is some epic, grinding noise which is a killer start to the year for me. Some excellent Black/Thrash Metal that is intense and in your face. A release that is ripping out chaos from start to end. With low-fi production it may be too harsh for some, but for me this was a wicked album. -7.5/10
