Here I review the new, debut demo EP from BESTIAL WARFARE which is out now on Dunkelheit Produktionen!
- I opens with samples that drop right into incredibly brutal and chaotic attacks from the band. The grisly growls of the vocalist layered over the blistering walls of guitar noise and fantastic blast beats beautifully. This is shaping up already to be some really intense but also relatively precise War Metal with raw production and a morbid sound. The sheer aggression of the song makes for a perfect first impression of the band, especially as I am writing this in the morning, a definitely noisy wake up for me. There are some nice doomy tinges to the song giving that grotesque vibe even more strength to it. Overall this was a really killer opening song of some pretty class Black/Death Metal warfare!
- II dives right back into more anarchic extremity with chugging riffs that just pummel at you. The decimating assaults of the band are created incredibly well and for me this is some of the best War Metal, thus far, I have heard in a while. This track is some real headbanging fuel, unlike a lot of these bands however (many of whom I enjoy), I think this could appeal to the average Metalhead. The song was really catchy and brutal but of course raw as hell. Some great work on this one, especially the riffs.
- III utilises some eerie sampling, setting the hate fuelled mood perfectly. The gruesomely doomy riffs and built in drums nicely follow suit with dismally dark vocals too. The crawling pace of the song is suitably contradictory to the usual barrage of noise, giving the demo some versatility before heading back into pure frenzied Black Metal mania. The insanely fast drums sound killer while the whole band really drive the force of this music into the totally extreme. Fantastic!
- IV follows up with more sampling, followed by churning and bleak riffs, this is the final track of the demo and the marching melancholy of it certainly makes that evident. I am sure, however, the band have some last surprises and plenty more hatred left to fuel this last piece. This song is very good at really dragging at you, it is crushingly heavy and really utilises simplicity to make something mesmerising. The feeling of finality in the song works beautifully in its closing role but without just the use of some sub-par outro, rather a longer track filled with doomy atmospherics. Sure enough the speed kicks into furious blasts once more, but in a way that was unpredictable and gave the song a nice diverse feeling to it. This last track was a gorgeously suited way to finish the demo. Absolutely excellent!
This is some of the best War Metal I have heard in some time. Truly chaotic, decimating, aggressive and morbid. Excellent work on this debut demo and I shall certainly be keeping an eye on what this band get up to in the future. -7.5/10
