ALBUM REVIEW: Invocation Of Death – Into The Labyrinth Of Chaos

Here I review the new debut full length from INVOCATION OF DEATH which is out on Morbid Skull Records.

01. Embrace Of Hate opens things with distorted sampling which creates and awesomely eerie atmosphere for the album before dropping into killer, old school and groovy as hell riffs. The upbeat drums pummel you while the grinding guitars just kill. The visceral vocal attack match the music perfectly, with bass that totally decimates too and overall this is a really tight and strong opening song to begin the bludgeoning music! A perfectly timed, crawling piece of Death Metal excellency.
02. Letanias Del Caos continues in the cascading and grisly Death Metal assaults that beautifully come together with such precision and really effective production. The songwriting is fantastic and is executed perfectly. The band have a sound combining modern Brutal Death Metal, more old school DM and their own unique groove, making for an interesting listen which is really well showcased in this song. Utterly brilliant and grotesque! There are some classic doomy elements that just bring everything to a whole new region of darkness that is completely epic to behold. Great work!
03. Solar Crisis opens with epic old school bass riffs and simplistic drums that allow things to beautifully build to cataclysmic and huge sounding guitars, driving through with tremolo riffs and a certain consistency that I really love. The punchy and aggressive music is also balanced out with precise atmospherics, killer melodies and some really gnarly musicianship. Another excellent track, certainly worth listening to if you do not have time to check the whole release out (although I would encourage doing so).
04. En El Altar De La Misantropia fires in with blackened riffs, intense blast beats and some epic grooves. The whole vibe of the piece is both morbid and ferocious with incredibly brutal vocals, fantastic structures and an overall pummelling feel to it. The bass tone is crushing with pounding drums, hellish grinding guitars and some really dark undertones. A really awesome piece, full of strength. With a raw precision that really hits hard, everything is in perfect place for the atmospheric and genuinely really stunning break. A glorious track!
05. Crawling In The Dark
chugs into life with a slowly built in attack, a really effective way to capture and draw out the atmosphere. There is a bleaker feeling to the song which is a nice change in pace for the album. The song really does crawl along, matching the title well! I love the way this really feels like a punch in the face with each line of vocals over the more minimalistic background. Excellent!
06. The Convent
features immediately gripping riffs and a dismally grotesque atmosphere, the chaotic instrumentals perfectly creating this epic assault. Tasteful grooves and old school grinding guitars over blasting drums and accompanied by hideously tormented vocals all work beautifully together. Every aspect of the track is appealing and mesmerising, with a really gorgeous and esoterically brilliant sound to things. The mosh pit fuelling groove of the piece is awesome too. Absolutely fantastic.
07. The Art Of The Deformed
is the last piece, but doesn’t go quietly. The furious drums and riffs follow on excellently from the previous tracks with plenty of catchy hooks and punchy rhythms that kick you into submission as the Death Metal assaults ensue. The song is actually quite varied with dissonant slower guitar sections over hammering drums that have a really unsettling vibe together. A really cool and original closing piece, certainly fitting the bands strange yet wonderful style. This is a totally headbang worthy piece of music. Absolutely great!

This is some really awesome, strange and atmospheric Death Metal. The band have combined both modern and old school elements really nicely, completely finding their own sound that really works. A killer debut and certainly worth a listen! -7.5/10
