ALBUM REVIEW: Organic – Carved In Flesh

Here I review the debut full length from Death Metallers Organic! The album will be released in November on Testimony Records!

1. Suffocate In Blood begins with gunfire, bringing in the battalion of Death Metal sounds. Grinding guitar riffs, epic blast beats and gruesome grunting vocals soon ensue. There is an immediate vibe of Bolt Thrower, Asphyx and other bands (as stated in the announcements). The vocals have a touch of influence in sound of Sven from Aborted. Everything about this is a really cool blend of Swedish and American Death Metal sounds creating something equally dismal and gruelling as it is punchy, in your face and brutal. The guitar and bass riffs are fantastic with catchy hooks and drums that follow perfectly. There is something about the groove and brutality that feels more modern but the overall feel is much more old school, I am loving how contradicting and original this already feels. Some absolutely epic music to begin with!
2. Shrouded In Darkness follows suit with slow burning yet intense riffs, killer drum fills and a nice build into what will surely be something equally crushing. The melodic guitars have a nice At The Gates vibe to them that really gets stuck in your head. The upbeat groove is packed with a nice ferocity that is incredibly enticing and hard hitting. The eerie atmosphere is incredible morbid and dark with a nicely foreboding essence that is met with some monolithic momentum and pummelling, assaulting instrumentals. All of this is topped off beautifully with some really hellish vocals. Great stuff!
3. Frozen Meat Medal follows up with some incredibly fast and piercing frenzied madness. The cascading Death Metal assault filled with groove and catastrophically heavy music is just so damn tight. The guitar and bass tones are really fat, the drums are well mixed and change enough to not become dull and the vocals remain absolutely grisly. Guitar leads are introduced nicely with some cool tapping licks placed in for good measure! The war marching grind of this song is just so catchy, absolute headbanger right here with some absolutely stunning riffs, blinding blast beats and just overall unrivalled ferocity.
4. Macabre Rites from the off does indeed have a macabre sound that the title promises. Everything is incredibly intense and has this really bombastically violent feeling to it. The old school raw mixing captures the essence of the music beautifully while retaining the full razor sharp edge of everything, especially the HM-2 soaked guitars. The doomy build up in the song is so damn crushing and just storms through epic sections of perfectly written and executed Death Metal. There are some nice delves into Doom Metal and even some thrashy territories too! This track absolutely slays!
5. Der Fotzenknecht falls into place beautifully bringing in chaotic and upbeat attacks once more. The churning assaults really feel so genuine with the epic guitar riffs (and tone), devastatingly intense drums and totally morbid vocals too. I genuinely lost track of what was machine gun sampling and kick drums in this song, which was cool. An awesome, although short piece.
6. I, Soulless comes in with more depressive riffs and a slower much more Doom Metal vibe. The riffs are absolutely excellent, really drawn out and dragging nicely. The super low end gristle of the distortion on the guitar and bass really allowing the fuzz to permeate nicely while the drums crash in, pulling everything together into more riveting Death Metal fury! This is some unforgiving stuff with so much well put together brutality that just pummels your ears into submission. Some mesmerising instrumental work that really sits nicely with the clear yet demonic growls of the vocalist. Fantastic work!
7. Carved In Flesh blasts right in with a nice growl, tremolo picked guitars, bellowing bass and crashing drums. The punchy hooks soon fall together, finding order in a militant march of morbidity, this is some absolutely hammering Death Metal leaving only devastation and burning cinders when played too loud. The monstrously heavy guitars have been incredibly consistent with the thunderous bass and insane drums, always being met with some of the most guttural and gruesome vocals I have heard in quite some time. This song stays true to formula but like a couple of the more recent ones includes some crushing doomy parts too. Absolutely incredible track, once again!
8. Carnal Absolution (Behind The Altar) imminently yet slowly draws in, with some super Bolt Thrower like riffs and tasteful drums that feel so familiar yet entirely new at the same time (a feeling I love when it is created properly). The hammering guitar and bass plus some intricate drums lay the foundation of this absolutely drudgingly heavy piece of music, with some superb vocal work yet again. From track to track this whole album has flowed really nicely with a similar vibe to a candlelit and damp dungeon that is both fascinating and filthily grotesque at the same time. Some absolutely storming sections of this song that will leave you wishing there was more than one track left after this. Excellently done!
9. From Beyond brings in the end of the album, which is sad really, but lets see how much more ferocity they pack into this last song… The furious grinding of the guitars, devastatingly heavy drums and everything just so catatonically crushing is all pulled together gorgeously once again. The pummelling and unrelenting attack of the band shows absolutely no sign of ending, disregarding the short running time that is left. Some really cool riffs in this track that will definitely appeal to fans of Entrails, Dismember and Entombed, absolutely brilliant. The guitar solo is really cool in this with a nice old school feeling to it. A wonderful end to the album, going out in style with plenty of epic melodies!

This album is fantastic. Mixing the putridity of rotting flesh turned noise and brutally crushing doom elements into some of the most dismally grotesque and epic Death Metal with some killer, catchy grooves and hooks. Amazing musicianship from the whole band and so much unrelenting attack. A must for Death Metal fans worldwide, this will absolutely stampede, crush and decimate any doubts people may have in the future of Death Metal! -9/10
