ALBUM REVIEW: Oxygen Destroyer – Bestial Manifestations Of Malevolence And Death

Here I review the upcoming album from Oxygen Destroyer which was sent to me by a friend of mine. Below are my opinions.

  1. Born Of Nuclear Energy opens things with an air raid siren, as mentioned in the Marduk review, one of my favourite sounds used. The bomb exploding sounds brutal as well. The creepy strings are out of key and sound really evil. A cool little introduction.
  2. Cleansing The Earth Of Human Existence opens with some catchy old school Death Metal riffing, killer drums and good production. The song is really brutal and sounds hellish. The battery that follows is immense topped with demonic vocals, this is real old school Death Metal full of speed, aggression of sick songwriting. Tons of variation is found within the Thrash speeds, Death Metal instrumentals and more Black Metal vocals. A real headbang worthy track and a promising start to the music of the band indeed.
  3. Onslaught Of The Precambrian Hordes continues the assault with more old school riffs, chaotic drumming, and tons of distortion. The mix sounds killer and there is nothing light-hearted about this music, the band are clearly dead set on creating a heavy and original atmosphere. The song ends very abruptly, thought it actually sounds really cool how it does to me.
  4. Subsumed Within The Bowels Of The Perennial Monstrosity pretty much picks up where the previous left off, fast-paced as ever with awesome songwriting skills and musicianship. The unrelenting attack of the instruments and hideously growled vocals sounds awesome and does a lot in terms of creating a really in your face attack. The blistering guitar solo is a great addition to the speed of the song.
  5. Summoning The Moth Of Divinity does not mess about going straight to business, the song is a bit darker than others but still follows the extreme formula. Nothing is too different from song to song so far, but this formula clearly works well for the band. The vocals remind me of Angelripper from Sodom, with instrumentals more akin to Goatwhore, 2 bands I enjoy!
  6. Vanquished By The Unrelenting Devastation Of the Celestial Behemoth opens with more sampling that sounds really awesome, straight from a sci-fi movie kinda vibe to it. It is followed up by more brutal and flamboyant extremity, which absolutely blasts the listener. This song is definitely my favourite so far due to its sheer heaviness, great songwriting and pummelling sound, it offers absolutely no rest to those who hear it. Also the guitar solo is really killer!
  7. Bio-Mechanically Imprisoning The Sacred Beast Of The Apocalypse has a beautifully chaotic attack, there is so much force and aggression in the structure of this. This song once again is a great example of the fusion of Thrash/Death/Black Metal to create something purely chaotic and heavy as hell. The slower riffing sounds brutal, and it’s a pleasure to listen to throughout.
  8. Supersonic Devastator kicks into fast-paced glory once more. The riffs are atmospheric but not in any form or way relaxing. The pure old school Metal assault is so strong, amazing work once more. Regardless of how heavy the song is, it is very catchy, and the vocals sound absolutely glorious on here.
  9. Death To The False King opens with sampling, punching riffs and just more extremely cool riffs, the drummer is clearly playing his heart out and the mix is just so dirty. Excellent music, with thrashy mosh pit fuel. The vocals are everything I enjoy about early Extreme Metal.
  10. Atomic Breath is the final track, and it opens with a slower pace (as is tradition in a lot of these types of bands closing numbers). The speed soon picks up for once more round of manic music. This is the kind of song that would be perfect in a live atmosphere, and now certainly a band I’ll be keeping an eye out to see if they play close by. A killer closing track.

Extremity is found in abundance here, from the Thrashing pace, brutal instruments and grotesquely evil vocals. The song lengths are perfect so as not to lose momentum nor too short to not gain any to begin with. A really killer piece of Extreme Metal with something for everybody. -8/10
