Today I will be reviewing the new album from UK Doom Metal mob Witchsorrow.
- Maleficus opens with sludgy distortion drenched guitars and bass, a pulsating drum part and Black Sabbath vibes to spare. It sounds gloriously evil I must say.
- Hexenhammer kicks straight into headbang worthy riffs, tons of crunchy tones and haunting vocals. It sounds perfectly ritualistic and occult which works excellently with the Doom Metal genre of course. The lyrics are catchy and the grooves complement them perfectly.
- The Devil’s Throne speeds up the pace, it must be said that it has a great old school vibe to it. Certainly an interesting follow up to its sludgier predecessor but a good one all the same.
- Demons Of The Mind slows things back down beautifully. The riffs are killer, the vocals catchy, the drums hypnotic and the mix perfect. This song comes together in a beautiful way.
- Eternal has more waves of heavy overdriven chords, the slow tribalistic feeling of this album is really something awesome. This is definitely the most catchy album from the band.
- The Parish has an even heavier sound, slower tempo and amazing yet simple guitar riffs, it works wonders though (the simplicity) to make it feel very layered and has a wicked vibe to it. This song has a much more malevolent feeling to it than any prior tracks and the additional of a guitar solo which has a real class feel to it.
- Like Sisyphus is beautifully bleak and dark. The rhythm is pounding and the attack is perfect. It is dissonant yet melodic, chilled yet aggressive. A really noteworthy piece of Doom Metal for sure and my favourite track of the album. A definite headbanger!
A crushing opus of true Doom Metal might, a personal favourite of recent years in the genre. -9/10
