GIG REVIEW: Voivod / Necrophagia @ Waterfront Studio

Opening the night were local Thrash Metal band Shrapnel who played a fast paced set as you would expect from the genre, having seen this band many times it was a good set as usual despite the temporary absence of the lead guitarist. – 7/10

Next up were Necrophagia, a band I had never before seen live, and they sure were brutal. Storming through a set of classic US Death Metal, the set continued with both fast and slow pummelling death metal containing plenty of rancid classics from their lengthy career. A really great act who I will watch again given a chance! – 9/10

Finally Voivod took to the stage, having seen them at Bloodstock Festival in 2013 I knew these guys were good live. They played their Technical Thrash Metal set perfectly, and melodically so. The riffs were blinding, the bass thumping, the drums blasting and the vocals intense. While not as good in my opinion as the Bloodstock show they did, Voivod played a great set! -8/10

Overall a great show and hopefully not the last in Norwich despite the quietness of the music scene. Also caught a plectrum from Voivod and one from Necrophagia which after Solstafir last night has been a lucky 48 hours!
