ALBUM REVIEW: Conjureth – Majestic Dissolve

CONJURETH set the underground alight with 2 demos in 2020, now the rotten Death Metal entity has a debut album to offer on the altar of all things morbid. To be unleashed via Memento More Records and Rotted Life Records on October 25th.

Utilising a sample before dropping us into a barrage of ferocious riffing and killer drum work, Conjureth waste no time in unleashing a fetid onslaught of magnificent Death Metal. The vocals are suitably grotesque for the fast-moving instrumentals which altogether feels tight and precise while the production drips with old school sludge, allowing the meaty guitars and unrelenting drums to back up the spew of vocals with a remorselessly exciting execution. There is a technicality to the riffs and the solos that truly feels majestic and triumphant in the vein of early 90s Death Metal bands when guitarists were hugely talented but didn’t feel a need to be overly showy about it, that middle ground always has a sweet spot which Conjureth hit head-on. Aside from these tasty licks, there is no shortage of fantastic riffs either with cascades of morbid offal never ceasing. As is always important for such vitriolic guitar work, the drums remain busy throughout with blast beats dancing around the whole kit to give a varied performance rather than one blast getting tiresome. Vocally we hear a mix of snarls, growls and screams that reek of the foulest crypts. Those who did not experience the killer demos yet will be blown away by the sheer brutality on show here, and those of us that did can hear how much the band have progressed since last year, working as a unit to deliver a stench of truly amazing Death Metal.

The maniacal musicianship does not relent as we venture further into the depths. In fact the band seem to have boundless energy and ideas, resulting in an album that peaks and drops with feral onslaughts and eerie atmospherics that are always delivered at the right moment. Just when you want a bout of total chaos, one lands, the same can be said for the sparsely used but always creative soloing. The interesting blend of American and European influence can be heard as can some more Mexican flares that inject some Thrash Metal ideas into the eldritch ferocity. Overall, the crazed and often frantic sounds extend across the whole lineup with insane vocals and equally unencumbered instruments blunder into a storm of hellfire before tightening up to give us some head banging grooves that are just as manic. That energy and volatility will keep anyone on their toes through the whole album. More impressive yet, is the way everything strings together so fluidly. Never does a section become jarring or feel out of place, or like it is there for the sake of it. This is concise and yet doesn’t cut any corners. Truly an impeccable feat that is certain to launch the bands wretched sounds into a welcome reception of underground fanatics and maniacs.

Unrelenting, venomous Death Metal that is yet another marvellous example of the diversity and talent in the underground, now as much as ever. Conjureth unleash an ever-flowing stream of malevolent riffs, pulverising drums and sadistic vocals that encapsulates all things old school Death Metal. Pure morbid chaos for true die-hards only.
